Dr. Anthony B. Furey – Cardiologist & Clinical Educator

Dr. Anthony B. Furey has been a vital member of Cardiology Physicians, PA since March 2011, bringing over two decades of experience in cardiology to the practice. He has been caring for patients in Delaware since 1996, earning a reputation for clinical excellence, compassionate care, and a strong commitment to cardiovascular education.

A native of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Dr. Furey attended Bishop Shanahan High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lafayette College, where he was also a standout varsity basketball player and team captain in 1983. He went on to complete his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

His postgraduate training included an internship at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at The Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Dr. Furey is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also holds specialized certifications in Adult Echocardiography (American Society of Echocardiography) and Nuclear Cardiology (American Society of Nuclear Cardiology).

He is a member of several professional organizations, including:

Dr. Furey’s clinical interests include consultative cardiology, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. He has served on the Christiana Care Physician Engagement Council and the Heart and Vascular Leadership Committee, and was the Medical Director of the Christiana Care Cardiac Rehabilitation Program from 1998 to 2018.

His dedication to education earned him the “Outstanding Specialty Teacher” award from the Christiana Care Family Medicine program in 2002. He has also been recognized as a “Top Doctor” in Cardiology by Delaware Today Magazine in 2003, 2010, and consecutively from 2018 to 2021.

Dr. Furey lives in Wilmington, Delaware with his wife Katherine, whom he married in 1990. Together, they have three children: Brannock (born 1993), Conor (born 1996), and Corinne (born 2001).
