Dr. Clay – Cardiologist & Clinical Research Leader
Dr. Clay has been a dedicated member of Cardiology Physicians, PA since 2003, bringing a deep passion for patient care, education, and cardiovascular research. Before joining the practice, he served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital and as an Attending Physician at Lankenau Hospital, gaining valuable academic and clinical experience.
Dr. Clay earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Villanova University, and completed his medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Hahnemann University, where he was named Resident of the Year and later appointed Chief Resident. He remained at Hahnemann for his Cardiology Fellowship, serving as Chief Cardiology Fellow. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Highly regarded for his dedication to medical education, Dr. Clay has precepted hundreds of medical students, residents, and fellows, earning Teacher of the Year honors from both the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Christiana Cardiology Fellowship Program.
Dr. Clay is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and his leadership extends beyond the clinic. He has served as the Governor of the American College of Cardiology for the State of Delaware and as President of the American Heart Association of Delaware. He has been consistently recognized as a Top Doctor by Delaware Today Magazine.
His clinical interests include nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, transesophageal echo, cardiac CT, cardiac PET scanning, and consultative cardiology. Dr. Clay is also actively involved in cardiovascular research, serving as a principal investigator on numerous clinical trials, including NIH-funded studies and industry-sponsored trials related to pharmaceuticals, devices, ultrasound, and nuclear/PET imaging.
A Delaware County native and one of ten siblings, Dr. Clay married his wife Bernadette in 1987. They have three sons—Anthony (serving in the U.S. Navy), Luke, and Blase. In his free time, Dr. Clay enjoys playing basketball, rowing, skiing, reading, movies, and traveling. He is also a National Ski Patrol member and volunteers at Camelback Ski Resort, combining his passion for health, safety, and outdoor activity.
